Matt is an intern at Cathexis, and is working towards a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at NAU Tucson. Born and raised in the desert Southwest, Matt earned a BA in English from the University of Washington in 2015. After college, he pursued his dream of travel and lived on two continents while volunteering in environmental sustainability and education. He believes that cultural exchange and discovery is one of the most beautiful parts of life, and continues to deepen his perspective and understanding of the many ways we each can live.
Matt’s approach to therapy follows an integrative approach, drawing from evidence-based practices, like CBT and ACT, while integrating elements of the meaning and insight-based approaches of existential and psychodynamic therapy. Matt’s extensive background in mindfulness and self-compassion work provides an opportunity to explore these processes within oneself, and discover the somatic and emotional content that underlies and informs our lived experiences. Matt believes that every client is multilayered, and seeks to work with clients on the internal, relational, and contextual levels. He believes that everyone is an expert on their own life, and he tailors his approach to build a therapeutic experience with you that is insightful, empowering, and healing.
In his free time, Matt likes to read fiction, explore the desert, hike, see friends, do yoga, watch his favorite shows, and spend time with his wife and their dog, Monkey.
