Mel Witter

LPC

I am a therapist and current PhD student in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of Arizona. My research explores how technology impacts the therapeutic relationship, and how systemic factors and internal working models shape experiences of impostor phenomenon within counselor education. I also hold a minor in Philosophy, which informs my clinical lens—particularly in the areas of ethics, power, and broader relational dynamics within therapy, education, and supervision.

My clinical orientation is grounded in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic theory, and I am engaged in ongoing postgraduate training in depth-oriented psychotherapy. I also incorporate EMDR and expressive arts practices to support clients in working with trauma, emotion regulation, and symbolic processing. My approach is relational and experiential, with attention to the layered, often dialectical meanings that emerge in therapeutic work.

I completed my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northern Arizona University in 2022, and my undergraduate studies in Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Arizona.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds. I believe therapy should be a collaborative process rooted in honesty, reflection, and transformation—guided by the client’s unique internal world and lived experience. My goal is to provide care that is individualized, ethically grounded, and responsive to both personal and systemic dimensions of suffering.
